The ballots of Israeli Likud party primary elections closed Tuesday night, during which only 39 percent of the party's 94,944 registered voters cast their ballots, Israel Radio reported.
After a count of 40 percent of the votes cast in Tuesday's Likud primary elections, some 75 percent of the voters re-elected Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu, according to local daily Yedioth Ahronoth.
Some 20 percent voted for Moshe Feiglin, chairman of the party's Jewish Leadership faction and the remaining 5 percent for World Likud Chairman Danny Danon, the report added.
Local media had expected that Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu will win the race by a large majority.
The ballot kicked off when some 300 polling stations opened throughout the country at 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) Tuesday morning.
