Dubai police have seized more than two million tablets of narcotics which had been attempted to smuggle from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to neighboring Saudi Arabia, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Wednesday.
A total of 2,140,000 tablets of Keptagon, a type of performance- improvement drug, were seized by the Drug Combat Department of Dubai police on Aug. 9 in an operation to foil an attempt to smuggle these drugs to Saudi Arabia, according to the report.
These Keptagon tablets worth 20 million dirhams (5.45 million U. S. dollars) were trafficked into the UAE through another Arab country.
After investigations, two defendants were charged with " possession of narcotics to be exported", which is punishable by a jail term of 7 to 15 years.
Keptagon is a type of Amphetamine, a prescription synthetic mood-altering drug. It is also used illegally as a recreational club drug and as a performance enhancer.
Long-term abuse or overdose effects of Keptagon can include restlessness, changed sleep patterns, anxiety and a weakened immune system, while prolonged abuse can lead to erectile dysfunction, heart problems, stroke, and liver, kidney and lung damage.
