Six Iraqis including three policemen were killed and three others injured in attacks in and near the capital on Wednesday, a well-informed police source said.

Unidentified gunmen attacked a police patrol in Baghdad's southern district of Doura, leaving three policemen killed and two others seriously injured, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, two civilians were killed by a sniper in the al-Siba'a Square in central Baghdad, the source said.

Earlier on Wednesday, one civilian was killed and another one injured when insurgents opened fire in the town of al-Madain, 30 km southeast of Baghdad, the source added.

Violence continues infesting Iraq despite the presence of tens of thousands of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers across the country in a major security crackdown on insurgency and sectarian violence.
