An Egyptian boat with 70 people onboard during an attempt to illegally immigrate to Europe was towed back Wednesday to the northern Egyptian port city of Alexandria.
The ship, which went missing in the Mediterranean sea several days ago due to engine breakdown, arrived in the Abu Qir port in Alexandria, about 220 km northwest to the capital city of Cairo, said a report of the official MENA news agency.
Earlier MENA reports said the ship carrying some 90 Egyptian nationals who were in an attempt to reach European coast illegally.
The report said the ship carrying the illegal immigrants went missing in the Mediterranean waters between Alexandria and Rosetta, another port city along the northern Egyptian coast.
Navy vessels have been sent out to search for the missing ship and the rescuers located it on Tuesday after the sailors sent an SOS signal due to engine breakdown.
