Palestinian militants from the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement fired three rockets into southern Israeli city of Sderot on Thursday, the group said in a statement.
Jihad fighters launched three home-made rockets into the Israeli community from northern Gaza Strip in early morning, said al-Quds Brigades, Jihad's armed wing.
The armed group said the attacks were in response to the Israeli "crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank."
In 2005, Israel ended 38 years of occupation of the Gaza Strip but has been sending troops to the coastal enclave every now and then to curb rocket attacks.
The latest Israeli incursion into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip occurred on Tuesday when Israeli tanks, backed by helicopters, stormed the town of Khan Younis, killing some seven Palestinians.
Meanwhile, in the Fatah-held West Bank, Israeli troops arrested more than eight Palestinian in pre-dawn raids in several cities, the Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported.
The detentions took place in Nablus, Hebron and the holy city of Bethlehem.
In Nablus, Palestinian fighters have targeted the Israeli forces through using roadside bombs. The military wing of Hamas and militants from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Israeli sources confirmed the attacks and denied any casualties among the troops.
