Two American soldiers were killed and six others injured in fighting in north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Thursday.

The incident took place during combat operations on Wednesday, the military said in a statement.

The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq to about 3,700 since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
