The family of a man who died after eating shawerma (chicken sandwiches) from a restaurant in Jordan on Thursday filed lawsuits against the restaurant owner and a hospital doctor who dealt with him before his death.
Bilal Jarwan, 23, was one of hundreds of people fell sick after eating salmonella-tainted shawerma from a fast food restaurant in Baqaa Palestinian camp in Jordan.
According to Bilal's father, Bilal was taken to the hospital last Saturday after consuming the contaminated shawerma, but the doctor, saying that it was not necessary to admit him, just gave him glucose injections and discharged him.
The next morning Bilal was found unconscious. He was pronounced dead soon after being rushed back to the hospital.
More than two hundred people fell sick in the salmonella outbreak. The restaurant, located around 27 km northwest of Jordan 's capital Amman, has now been closed and its owner arrested.
The Jordanian government has imposed a ban on chicken shawerma sales all over the country in the wake of the incident.
Minister of Public Sector Reform and State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Thneibat, who is also acting Health Minister, said the government launched an investigation into the incident last Saturday.
