Spain offered its condolences to Peru on Thursday, one day after a powerful quake killed at least 437 people and injured another 1,300.
The Spanish embassy and the country's Technical Cooperation Office are in contact with Peruvian authorities to assess needs and deliver aid as quickly as possible, Spain's foreign ministry said in a statement.
The statement expressed Spain's condolences and solidarity with the government of Peru and the families of the victims.
A state of emergency has been declared in the province of Ica, which, 265 km southeast of the capital Lima, was the hardest hit by the quake.
The 7.9-magnitude quake struck at 6.41 p.m. local time (2341 GMT) on Wednesday with an epicenter located 148 km southwest of Lima and 40 km below the earth's surface.
It was one of the deadliest quakes in the country's history, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.
