A magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit off Solomon Islands Thursday night, with epicenter located only 75 km west-south-west of the Pacific nation's capital of Honiara.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at a depth of just 1.8 km below the sea.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio on Friday quoted police and the Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office in Honiara as saying there were so far no reports of casualties or significant damage.
But they added they were still to hear from isolated villages nearer the quake's epicenter.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, the United States, did not issue a tsunami warning following the quake.
