Earthquake jolts Ujungkulon, Indonesia |

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Ujungkulon area in Banten province of Indonesia at 1:26 a.m. Friday, but there was no reports of casualties and damages of materials.
The epicenter of the quake which occurred in the wee hours was traced at 6.73 degrees southern latitude and 104.37 degrees eastern longitude, 124 km northwest off Ujungkulon and 10.9 km below sea level, Antara news agency quoted Lampung meteorological and geophysics agency (BMG) as saying.
The tremor's epicenter was located at 223 km southwest of Kotabumi (North Lampung district) and 137 km southwest of Mt. Anak Agung Krakatau in Sunda straits which separates Java island from Sumatra island. Kotabumi Lampung-chapter of BMG chairman Chrismanto said.
"The trembler did not have a potential to cause tsunami tidal waves although the epicenter of the quake was located in sea," Chrismanto said.
Indonesia is situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire which is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activities.
