Singapore announced on Friday that it will extend humanitarian assistance to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which has recently been hit by severe floods.
The Singapore government will extend humanitarian aid of 50,000 U.S. dollars to the flood victims while the Singapore Red Cross Society will also make a separate contribution of 19,000 U.S. dollars, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The contributions will be sent to the DPRK by the Singapore Red Cross through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Heavy rains, which started from Aug. 4, have stormed the DPRK capital city of Pyongyang and six of its nine provinces, damaging more than 11 percent of farmland, destroying more than 46,580 houses and affecting over 300,000 victims.
The DPRK has appealed to the international community to provide emergency aid.
