Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Sunday appointed Central Leader of the People's Front Nepal (PFN) Shashi Shrestha as Minister of State for Health and Population.
Shrestha had been appointed for the office by PM Koirala based on the recommendation of the PFN chairman Amik Sherchan.
As per the eight-party agreement, the PFN was to get the portfolio of one minister and one state minister during the formation of the interim government of Nepal on April 1, 2007.
Prior to this, another leader of the PFN Giriraj Mani Pokharel was appointed Minister for Health and Population. Shrestha's name was proposed by PFN chairman Sherchan for the portfolio of state minister nearly two months ago.
Following the repeated delay in appointment of Shrestha as the state minister despite PFN chairman Sherchan had proposed her name for the portfolio nearly two months ago, the PFN even warned that it would quit the government.
