Afghan soldiers killed 10 Taliban insurgents in the southern Helmand province, an official said Monday.

Some militants attacked an Afghan army compound in Sangin district on Sunday night, district chief Ezatullah Khan told Xinhua.

Afghan soldiers killed 10 rebels and injured 4 others in the 2- hour clash, he said, adding there were no casualties of the soldiers.

Helmand province has been a hotbed of Taliban militants, who clash with government and foreign troops frequently.

Due to rising Taliban violence, over 3,900 persons have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
