New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg reiterated he would not run for president in a TV interview that will be aired Tuesday on HDNet channel, local media reported Monday
In Tuesday's program, host Dan Rather has a rare sit-down interview with New York City Mayor Bloomberg where he made it categorically clear that he will not run for U.S. president, nor will he seek a vice presidential bid nor any cabinet position, the channel said on its website.
"Nobody's going to elect me president of the United States," Bloomberg told Rather. "What I'd like to do is to be able to influence the dialogue."
The mayor said he has no interest in higher office and his job is to represent New Yorkers in the next two and a half years of his final term.
"My job is to represent them and put that ahead of any of my own personal aspirations," he said.
With speculations about Bloomberg's White House bid flaring, a latest poll shows he would fare well if he is interested in running for New York governor in 2010 instead.
