The relations between Vietnam and the United States have developed in all aspects, and the leaders and people of the two countries resolved not to let their differences hinder their current relationship, according to local media Tuesday.
Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet made the remarks when he met with new ambassador of the United States Michael W Michalak to receive his credential on Monday, local newspaper Vietnam News reported.
The State President added that he was happy to see progress in relations between the two countries, especially in politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, education, science and technology.
However, due to their history and different paths for the development, the two countries still have differences. But he believed that the remaining issues will be resolved through constructive dialogue, Triet said.
Vietnam will actively cooperate with the U.S. on the MIA ( Missing In Action) issue, and the country also acknowledged U.S. efforts in helping Agent Orange (AO) victims and rehabilitating AO- affected areas in Vietnam, he noted.
Ambassador Michael W Michalak said he will focus on boosting economic cooperation and ties in education between the two countries, and he believed that economic and trade relations between the U.S. and Vietnam will continue to develop.
