Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will arrive here on Thursday for a three-day official visit to Malaysia, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said here on Tuesday.
It would be the first official visit by Abe to Malaysia since he assumed the office in September last year, the ministry said in a statement.
Abe's visit to Malaysia is significant as Japan and Malaysia will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties, it added.
According to the ministry, Abe will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
The two countries also are expected to issue a joint statement.
