A roadside bombing killed eight Afghan policemen in the southern Kandahar province on Saturday, local police commander Abdul Qayum told Xinhua.

The remote-control blast, which occurred at around 6:00 p.m. ( 1330 GMT) in Shah Wali Kot district, also injured one policeman, he said.

The police were launching an investigation, and there was no other information immediately, he said.

No one has claimed responsibility, but Taliban militants have frequently carried out similar attacks.
