Security has been put on high alert in southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan on the first anniversary of the death of local tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, private Geo TV channel reported Sunday.
Shutter down, black day and wheel-jam strike in Baluchistan including Quetta for Sunday have been announced and political parties in this connection have also announced to support the strike call, according to Geo.
The report said police movement has been increased at various places of Quetta, the provincial capital.
Various districts including Quetta were rocked Saturday when nearly one dozen blasts occurred in the province, about which no casualty is reported so far, TV channels reported.
Bugti tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, a former provincial governor, was killed during a military operation on Aug. 26, 2006 in his cave at Kohlu, an area in Baluchistan known for tribal militants' activities.
Anti-government tribals demanding greater autonomy and more royalties share from local natural resources continued to launch sabotage activities against government installations and public assets, like electricity lines, gas pipelines, and rail track, since years back.
The death of Bugti had once sparked widespread unrest in Baluchistan, where he was widely regarded as a hero for fighting for rights of local so-called ethnic Baluch nationalists.
