Two separate battles between Afghan forces and Taliban militants claimed the lives of 15 insurgents, officials said Monday.
Eleven insurgents were killed as they came in contact with the police in Jalrez district of the central Wardak province on Sunday, a local senior police official Mohammad Awaz Mazlom told Xinhua.
He said two more Taliban fighters and one policeman were injured in the gun battle.
Also on Sunday, four insurgents were killed and eight others sustained injuries in a similar battle in Daychopan district of the southern Zabul province, district chief Fazal Bari told Xinhua.
There were no casualties on Afghan troops, he added.
Due to rising Taliban violence, about 4,000 persons have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
