Vietnam will set up provincial anti- corruption committees headed by chairpersons of cities or provinces nationwide, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.
Under the revised Anti-Corruption Law publicized on Monday, the committees will have tasks of directing and inspecting anti- corruption activities of agencies in provinces or cities, and coordinating and reporting their activities to the central anti- corruption committee.
The committees have members who are representatives of interior and communications agencies, and political and social organizations in the localities.
Ministries and sectors conducted 346 inspection cases in 2006, detecting economic wrongdoing worth 6,267 billion Vietnamese dong (roughly 391.7 million U.S. dollars), nearly 4.2 million dollars, and 395,890 euros (over 475,000 dollars), according to the Government Inspectorate.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security investigated 7,772 economic crimes, of which 338 corruption cases were prosecuted.
