U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned, U.S. media reported Monday, quoting official sources.
Senior Bush administration officials have confirmed the news to U.S. media that Gonzales had submitted a resignation letter last Friday.
The Justice Department, which was led by Gonzales, has scheduled a press conference at 10:30 a.m. (1430 GMT) on the issue.
Solicitor General Paul Clement will be a temporary replacement until a permanent replacement is found, according to news reports.
