India has launched a program to develop technology for an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), the Hindu reported Tuesday.
UCAVs, or combat drones, are the latest class in the unmanned aerial vehicle systems and are designed to deliver weapons and attack targets.
India's defense research and development organization (DRDO) chief controller in its aeronautics and material sciences division D. Banerjee said facilities had already been created for radar cross simulation.
Banerjee added that a DRDO laboratory in southern Indian city of Bangalore would be the nodal agency for the UCAV program.
Banerjee said the DRDO was looking for a partner from the private sector for its medium altitude long endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle.
