A rally by Palestinian journalists in Gaza on Tuesday quickly dispersed after dozens of Hamas media workers slipped among the participants who wanted to protest against Hamas attacks on journalists.
The journalists gathered in downtown Gaza and walked towards the Unknown Soldier Park, chanting slogans in opposition to recent violations committed by Hamas against a number of journalists and media workers in the Hamas-run Gaza.
Before they arrive, another demonstration by employees of Hamas TV station and a pro-Hamas daily intercepted the first rally.
They held pictures of Hamas cameraman wounded two months ago by Israeli fire and banners against Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' forces for banning the printing of Palestine newspaper in the West Bank.
As a result, organizers of the first rally called on their followers to gather in another place, the offices of the journalists union, before Hamas rally rejoined them.
In front of the union offices, a pro-Hamas journalist named Emad Ifrangi criticized the union for "enlisting factional criteria in dealing with the attacks against journalists."
Last Friday, Hamas' Executive Forces arrested five cameramen and photographers for covering a rally by supporters of President Abbas' Fatah party that Hamas routed in mid-June fighting.
In return, Hamas demands the journalists to draw the public's attention to the detention of its journalists and banning Palestine daily in the Fatah-dominant West Bank.
