t least five persons were injured in clashes between the agitating cadres of the United Tharu National Front, policemen and local businessmen in southwestern Nepal on Tuesday.
The local media house's website THT online reported Tuesday that more than eight vehicles were vandalized in course of clashes occurred at Lamahi bazaar of Dang District, some 280 km southwest of the capital city.
According to eyewitnesses, police rained batons at the activists of the Front after the latter forced local businessmen to close the market for a mass meeting. The Front's activists vandalized one jeep, one mini-truck and three motorcycles of the businessmen, police said, adding that the businessmen also torched three bicycles of the Front's cadres. Irate traders also vandalized a house of Yogendra Chaudhary, central vice chairman of the Front.
According to Chaudhary, the businessmen attacked the Front's cadres who were requesting them to close shops for one hour to hold a mass meeting which was supposed to be organized to call off a strike program in mid and far-west region.
