Up to 333 people died in 9,996 criminal cases in Vietnam in the first half of this year, local newspaper Youth reported Wednesday.

The cases in the first half, up from 9,798 cases in the same period last year, also made 1,170 people injured and caused property losses of 116.5 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 7.3 million U.S. dollars).

Local police arrested 8,692 people related to the cases, said the paper.
