An American soldier was killed in fighting near Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.
The soldier died of wounds sustained during combat operations in the area on Tuesday, the military said in a statement.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, said the statement.
The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to more than 3,730 since the Iraq war broke out in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
