A car bombing and a roadside bomb attack rocked the Iraqi capital on Wednesday, killing a civilian and wounding four others, a well-informed police source said.
"A car bomb exploded near a court compound in the al-Karkh area in western Baghdad around midday, leaving a civilian killed and three others wounded," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, a roadside bomb detonated near the post office of Baghdad's eastern neighborhood of Baghdad al-Jadida, injuring a civilian, the source said.
Meanwhile, fierce clashes broke out in the area near the al- Hamza Square in the Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, the source said.
The area has been plagued by clashes frequently since Tuesday night when armed conflicts erupted between militiamen loyal to radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr and the militia members of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), headed by the powerful Shiite cleric Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, according to the source.
He said that it was unknown whether there is any casualty in Sadr City today, but added that the late Tuesday's clashes in the area left five people killed and some 20 others wounded.
The clashes are still ongoing despite the presence of the Iraqi security forces in the area, he said.
Tension mounted in the Shiite-dominated areas across Iraq after the deadly clashes between gunmen loyal to Moqtada al-Sadr and Iraq security forces killed 52 in Iraq's Shiite holy city of Karbala, where are observing a Shiite religious festival to celebrate the birth of a revered Imam.
