Ahmed Bahar, deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), on Wednesday accused lawmakers from President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement of breaking down the parliament.
Bahar, a member of Hamas which holds the PLC presidency, told a news conference in Gaza that Fatah parliamentary bloc and its chief Azzam al-Ahmad refuses to attend PLC sessions.
Bahar also slammed "a number of Fatah personages who commit crimes of forgery and extortion inside the PLC."
Fatah boycotted the PLC sessions after Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in mid June.
While Bahar conceded that Abbas' decrees to sack Hamas government and declare a state of emergency after the Gaza takeover are lawful, he insisted that the other decrees are not.
Hamas doesn't recognize the caretaker government formed by Abbas days after what the president deems a coup in Gaza. He refuses to talk with Hamas unless it hands over the Gaza Strip back to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) with Abbas as its chairman.
Bahar, meanwhile, called for immediate resumption of Hamas- Fatah dialogue, warning against Abbas' threat to hold early parliamentary elections.
