Bangladesh, Pakistan talks begins in Dhaka for expanding bilateral cooperation |

Bangladesh and Pakistan foreign secretary-level talks began in Dhaka on Wednesday focusing on expansion of bilateral cooperation especially in field of trade, business and direct shipping.
The two-day talks, being held after two years, is the 4th round of the foreign ministry consultations of the two sides. Bangladesh 's Acting Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain and Pakistan Foreign Secretary Reaz Mohammad Khan led their respective side.
The two sides discussed the establishment of direct shipping link between Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong Port and Karachi of Pakistan to strengthen business activities. The direct shipping between the two ports was suspended in 1987.
Besides, both Dhaka and Islamabad are keen on signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to reinvigorate the flogging bilateral trade, which was nearly 210 million U.S. dollars in 2005-06 with Bangladesh suffering a deficit of over 90 million dollars.
The two sides also discussed bilateral issues on education and cultural exchange programs during their talks in the first day.
The last Foreign Secretary-level meeting between the two countries was held in Pakistani capital Islamabad in August 2005.
