South Korean government said late Wednesday that another four South Koreans were released in Afghanistan.

Among the four hostages, one is male and the rest are female, the spokesman said.

The release came after eight South Korean hostages' release earlier on the day.

There have been a total of 12 South Koreans released by the Taliban militants on the day.

The Taliban militants kidnapped 23 South Koreans on July 19 in Afghanistan. The militants killed two male hostages separately on July 25 and July 30 and released two female South Koreans on Aug. 13.

The South Korean government announced Tuesday night that the Taliban militants have agreed to free all the 19 South Korean hostages held by them after a face-to-face negotiation with South Korean officials.

The Taliban said earlier that the South Korean hostages would be released in several groups as not all the hostages were detained together.
