The United States said Wednesday it welcomes Taliban's release of 12 out of 19 South Korean hostages in Afghanistan and insisted all hostages should be released.
"We are very glad that those who have been released so far will be able to return home to their families," State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said at a briefing.
"Our primary concern right now is that we see all these hostages released and get home," Casey said.
Casey declined to comment on the deal between Taliban and the South Korean government, and insisted that the United States will not make concessions to the terrorists.
Taliban released 10 women and two men outside the central town of Ghazni after a deal was reached between Taliban and South Korean diplomats in Ghazni.
Taliban also announced that it would free all the South Korean hostages after South Korea promised to withdraw its military force from Afghanistan and ban missionary groups to the country.
The South Korean hostages were kidnapped nearly six weeks ago.
