A commander of an armed group was killed in retaliatory police action in southern Nepal on Thursday.
Local news said that the police in Bara district, some 80 km south of capital city of Kathmandu, shot dead Jamuna Singh, 45, a district commander of the Jwala Singh led fraction of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) (Terai Democratic Liberation Front).
The clash between the police and the JTMM occurred after an armed group of the JTMM comprising some two dozen cadres opened fire at the police patrol near Telkuwa Village Development Committee, said the police sources.
Superintendent of Police at Bara District Police Office Shyam Bahadur Khatri said the police arrested another JTMM cadre identified as Nagendra.
The police recovered three bombs and different guns along with two rounds of bullets from the clash site.
Details of the incident are unknown.
Different fractions of JTMM have been involved in most of the killings, abduction and similar crimes in southern Terai region of late.
