Finland has granted support for earthquake victims in Peru and flood victims in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Finnish Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Responding to an appeal by the United Nations for emergency aid earlier this week, Finland will donate 300,000 euros (about 384,600 U.S. dollars) to earthquake victims in Peru and another 300,000 euros (about 384,600 U.S. dollars) to flood victims in the DPRK, the ministry said in a press release.
The aid will first be directed to the U.N. World Food Program, said the press release.
According to the latest figures from the Peruvian government, 550 people were killed, 1,600 injured and tens of thousands left homeless after a 7.9-magnitude earthquake hit Peru on Aug. 15.
The DPRK government said last Saturday that torrential rains in early August left at least 600 people dead or missing and 100,000 homeless.
