A civilian was killed and two others wounded in a roadside bomb attack in central Baghdad on Thursday, while another bomb explosion hit a U.S. patrol in southern Baghdad, a well-informed police source said.
"A roadside bomb went off in the afternoon in the Bab al-Mu' adham area in downtown Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding two others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The blast also damaged several nearby buildings, he added.
Separately, another roadside bomb struck a U.S. patrol in southern Baghdad neighborhood of Baiyaa, the source said.
It was unknown whether the U.S. soldiers sustained any casualty as the troops immediately cordoned off the area, preventing Iraqi police from approaching the scene.
Earlier in the day, three policemen were wounded while trying to defuse a roadside bomb on the highway near the Nahdha area in central Baghdad, police said.
Another roadside bomb went off in the industrial area of Sheikh Umer neighborhood, wounding four civilians, they added.
Violence still persists in Baghdad despite the presence of tens of thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops across the capital in a major security crackdown on insurgency and sectarian violence.
