The visiting German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung dismissed on Thursday the partition of Kosovo as a wrong move, adding that the shelved UN plan is a good foundation to the solution of Kosovo issue.

"We agreed that (UN special envoy) Martti Ahtisaari's plan is a good basis," Jung told reporters after meeting his Macedonia's counterpart Lazar Elenovski.

Dutch Foreign Minister Maxim Verhagen said on Tuesday on his tour to Belgrade and Pristina that his government will accept any negotiated solution to the Kosovo issue, including a partition of Kosovo.

Jung highly praised Macedonia for the progress the country has made thus far in defense reform in its bid to join NATO.

"You are on the right path," Jung said, adding that Macedonia " will not miss the historic chance to join NATO."

He also said that Macedonia's accession to the bloc will not be directly related to the Kosovo issue.

Earlier reports said that Macedonia will not be absorbed into the alliance until the Kosovo issue is resolved.

Macedonia has been longing to join NATO for years. In 2003, Macedonia joined Albania and Croatia and signed the Adriatic Charter with the United States in a bid to facilitate their entry into the alliance.

Macedonia expects to get invitation to join the military club at NATO's next spring summit in Bucharest, Romania.
