Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday emphasized that political stability was important in the country and said martial law and emergency were not a solution to the country's future.

"In the run-up to election the political environment should remain stable. Martial Law, emergency are not the solution to our future, but Pakistan comes first," Musharraf said in a PTV program called "Aiwan-e-Sadr sey" on Thursday.

Musharraf agreed that the entire nation was facing uncertainty, saying "There are rumors, distortions and the unfortunate part is that these are by design, to create uncertainties."

"I have full confidence that we will maintain political stability in the country," Musharraf said, adding that a long term strategy was being pursued in this regard.

Musharraf said he wanted to control the situation in a democratic way. He hoped that the political uncertainty should end in the next three to four months.

"My election should be held between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15 as it is a legal and constitutional requirement and the national and provincial election should be held this year," Musharraf said.
