Colombian police said Thursday they have arrested 42 alleged members of Colombia's Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) and drug trafficking groups during an operation in the northwestern Antioquia province.

The 42 suspects are accused of terrorism, homicide and drug trafficking by Colombian prosecutors, police told local radio networks.

A spokesman said FARC rebels, drug traffickers and other reorganized paramilitaries are trying to control politics, public order and the economy throughout Colombia.

According to police, the arrests were made in the city of Medellin and the municipalities of Argelia, Narino and Sonson in Antioquia, as well as in the central province of Tolima and the central-western province of Caldas.
