Leftist rebels will hand over on Saturday the bodies of 11 hostage lawmakers killed two months ago, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said Thursday.
"They are going to belatedly hand over the cadavers of the lawmakers" Saturday, said Uribe in the Caribbean resort of Cartagena. He did not elaborate on how the bodies would be handed over.
The rebels said the lawmakers, who had been held hostage since 2002, died accidentally on June 18 in a crossfire when an "unidentified military group" attacked the camp where they were staying.
However, the Colombian government has doubted the explanation. They accused the FARC of killing the lawmakers, saying that an international forensic committee will determine the cause of their death after the retrieval of the remains.
