Brazil on Thursday decided to invest 16.5 billion reales (8.2 billion U.S. dollars) in social projects, 40 percent higher than forecast, according to a decision made during the ministerial meeting in Brasilia.
The social agenda for 2008, included in the budget proposal, was presented by Brazil's Social Development Minister Patrus Ananias and approved by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. It will be delivered to the National Congress on Friday, the presidential press service said.
The plan is divided in four parts, which include inequality reduction, youth, citizen rights and culture.
Nearly 11 million Brazilian families will receive governmental aid through this project.
