Hungary wishes to enhance economic cooperation with Laos, especially in areas of tourism and health, Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Friday.
Gyula Thurmer, the visiting Chairman of the Hungarian Communist Workers' Party, expressed his appreciation of the renovation policy of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in fostering development and poverty reduction, when he met with Choummaly Sayasone, the Secretary General of Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos at the Presidential Palace on Thursday.
The official visit of Thurmer to Laos is aimed at enhancing relations and cooperation between the two countries. The delegation will explore possible avenues for tourism cooperation with Laos, and will meet with Laos' National Tourism Administration, the Committee for Planning and Investment and other sectors to discuss possible areas for future cooperation, the paper said.
Laos and Hungary established relations in 1962. Last year, the Hungarian government granted some 71,400 U.S. dollars to the Lao government to start a fishery project in Vientiane, as part of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
