Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont reaffirmed on Saturday that his government will guarantee ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's safety if he returns to Thailand to fight charges in court, according to the Thai News Agency.
The government has never intervened or tried to conclude the cases as it believes it is the responsibility of the judicial system. At the same time it will oversee the delivery of justice for Thaksin, Surayud said.
Meanwhile, Surayud said he was not worried by the movements of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra overseas.
Thaksin, now living in self-imposed exile in England, and his wife Pojaman both face court charges regarding a land purchase deal in a prime Bangkok business area. The couple are charged with breaching Thailand's anti-corruption laws, which bar state officials and their spouses from doing business with a state agency.
