A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement said on Saturday the people in Gaza Strip rose "to topple Hamas movement and will not stop before doing so."
Ahmed Abdel Rahman referred to Hamas' takeover of the Gaza Strip as a coup, saying that "Friday was the beginning to terminate the coup."
Hundreds of Fatah supporters took to the streets Friday after praying outdoors away from the mosques in which Hamas-linked Imams preach.
Hamas' Executive Forces, which took over the police role, crushed the rallies and arrested dozens of participants amid fierce beatings.
"Yesterday was a new era in the Palestinian national struggle to clean the homeland from Hamas gangs who are not more than agents of the Israeli occupation," Abdel Rahman said.
"The people flare up for the home unity and to express rejection of Hamas' high treason that cut the Gaza Strip from the West Bank," said Abdel Rahman, referring to Hamas refusal to recognize President Mahmoud Abbas' decision that fired Hamas government.
Hamas also doesn't recognize the caretaker government that is made up of moderates and rules from the West Bank.
