Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has appointed Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Jafari as the new head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the state- run Press TV channel reported on Saturday.
Yahya Rahim Safavi has stepped down as the Revolutionary Guards Corps chief and become a senior military advisor to the country's supreme leader, Press TV reported on its website.
Further details will be available in due time, the report added.
The Revolutionary Guards Corps, which operates its own ground, navy and air forces, is parallel to Iran's regular army.
