Kim Dae-jung, former South Korean president, will make a two-week trip to the United States later this month to enhance the bilateral ties between the two sides, according to South Korea's news agency Yonhap on Sunday.
"Former president Kim Dae-jung will visit the U.S. from Sept. 19 to 29 together with his wife Lee Hee-ho at the invitation of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, the National Press Club (NPC), and the Korea Society," said Choi Kyung-hwan, aide to Kim.
During his visit to the United States, Kim will meet with some U.S. officials to exchange views on the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula, the second inter-Korean summit, Northeast Asian security and South Korea-U.S. ties, according to Choi.
Kim's trip to the United States, the first in two-and-a-half years, comes amid apparent signs of progress in international efforts to resolve the nuclear issue, and precedes the second inter-Korean summit slated for Oct. 2-4 in Pyongyang, the news agency said.
