Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa urged Arab countries and Iran to hold dialogue at the highest level to consider the Iraqi crisis, Egyptian official MENA news agency reported on Sunday.

"Agreement on how to help and rescue Iraq is a must, and Arabs and Iranians must be on the same side rather than opposite sides," Moussa told reporters at a press conference on the sidelines of an AL meeting at the permanent delegates level, which was held earlier in the day at the AL headquarters here.

Commenting on alleged fears of Iran's interference to fill the vacuum in case of the pullout of foreign troops from Iraq, Moussa said, "Let us assume Iraq would be ready to act as a new Iraq erected on new principles, including being an Arab state, and thus there would not be any vacuum that needs to be filled."

Moussa highlighted the importance for Arab nations and Iran to beef up cooperation and stand on the same side, calling on the peoples of the Middle East region to stand up to challenges facing their region.

As for the AL's role in Iraq, Moussa said the pan-Arab entity, during the upcoming meeting of Iraqi's neighboring countries slated for in Baghdad, would urge the Iraqi people to reach national reconciliation, to renounce sectarian sedition and to respect citizenship.
