Four environmental activists on Monday tied themselves to a coal-carrying conveyor belt at a power station in southeast Australia.
The protesters are from a group calling itself "Real Action on Climate," and the aim of the action is to sending a message to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders in Sydney.
The action has disrupted generation at the power station, in the east of the state of Victoria, which supplies the state with about one third of its energy needs, Australian Associated Press reported.
Spokeswoman for the activists Michaela Stubbs said the protest is just one of several actions targeting the fossil fuel industry across Australia Monday.
"This is the type of visionary action that the Asia Pacific Economic Forum is unable to take," Stubbs was quoted as saying.
"Their non-committal, aspirational targets are completely inadequate to stop dangerous climate change.
The conclusion meeting of APEC senior officials opened on Sunday in Sydney, marking the beginning of the APEC Leaders Week which will culminate in the leaders summit meeting on Sept. 8 and 9.
