Palestinian fighters fired a barrage of rockets into southern Israeli communities from Gaza Strip early on Monday.
The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement claimed responsibility for launching nine home-made missiles in three attacks.
A spokesman for the movement said the shelling was part of the responses to the Israeli offensive against the Palestinians.
In addition, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an offshoot of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, also stated that its militants have shelled Sderot with two rockets.
The movement said they were retaliating for the Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, Israeli sources said that at least seven projectiles have landed in Sderot city, about 1.5 km from Gaza, causing panic among school children in the morning.
Hamas, or the Islamic Resistance Movement has scaled down the level of its rocket attacks on Israel since it seized control of Gaza Strip in June.
