South Korea is to endorse the sending of 49.3 billion won (48 million U.S. dollars) worth of emergency aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at a state-run committee meeting on Tuesday, the Unification Ministry said Monday.
The aid package breaks down to the purchase of materials and equipment valued at 37.4 billion won (36 million dollars), attendant transportation cost of 10 billion won (9 million dollars) and 2 million dollars to be delivered to the DPRK via the United Nations, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.
Late last month, South Korea decided to send 100,000 tons of cement, 5,000 tons of iron bars, 80 trucks, 500 tons of gasoline, 20 road reconstruction equipment and 20,000 tons of pitch to the flood-stricken DPRK. The transportation is to begin on Sept. 10.
