Russia is seeking to host the leadership meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in a Far Eastern city in 2012, which will be discussed at the upcoming APEC meeting in Sydney, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.
The Sydney meeting, slated for Sept. 8-9, is expected to adopt three statements ranging from international security and climate change to the Doha round of talks of the World Trade Organization.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the summit and pay visits to Australia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, the Kremlin press service said.
"The meeting will also discuss the application of Vladivostok to host the APEC meeting in 2012. All the APEC members promised to support us on that matter," Itar-Tass quoted Russian officials as saying.
