Indian Left parties aligning with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's coalition government Monday announced plans to protest against naval exercises to be started on Tuesday with the United States and Asian nations in the Bay of Bengal.

Left parties told a news conference in the east Indian Orissa state that Left-wing activists would hold a series of public meetings there as part of their protest against the event. Left parties' leaders would inaugurate the march of the protesters bound to Orissa.

Twenty-five warships from Australia, India, Japan, Singapore and the United States will take part in the exercises over five days starting on Tuesday in the Bay of Bengal.
